On White Bear Lake? Looks a lot like Milly, down a good 2.5 to 3 feet! Wow! If you are going to put in at the beach access, bring your hip waders. No dock and it’s only 6 to 8 inches deep out about a boat length. Also be careful for about the first 100 yards out – shallow! I thought the parking lot was bad last year. Can’t believe they let that thing rot for another entire year. There is one pothole as you enter the lot that will EAT your tire if you hit it…..

Ok, on to the fishing. I don’t get over to WBL very often. Once last year at this same timeframe. Water is crystal clear and you can easily see bottom in 10+ feet. Mix that with a fairly calm day and I think that scattered the fish Saturday. We picked up a crappie here and there, none were schooled up yet. All were pretty nice sized fish. Water temp was 40.6 in the AM and 44.2 as we pulled out early afternoon. The bite should be picking up real good here in the next few days. 4-6 feet over weeds, small flu-flu jig tipped with a minnow took all of our fish.

Thanks for the update Jon! Is there anywhere else to access the lake?

I was thinkin of heading that way one ofthese days now that I got this flu out of me.

I think there is a pay launch over by the Manitou (sp?) island bridge. Not sure how that works over there but saw a few boat putting in there. (No Docks there either.)

There is one at Manitou, there’s a pay box if there isn’t an officer there. Be careful there too, there’s a big rock pile from people power landing their boats. They don’t allow that there because of it. Last year, I launched our Pontoon there and it was a really big pain because th rockes didn’t allow me to get the trailer in far enough to float the pontoon.

There’s a lot of accesses that were sub par last year, and without some more water, they won’t be any better. It would be nice to see the dnr fix some of the blow out holes. I emailed them on a couple last year, but probably would be a good idea if others did as well. Squeeky wheel
