Seasonal Bass Patterns

Hello, trying to get to be a better bass fisherman and you read articles about seasonal movements of bass and they say stuff like in postspawn the bass move out of the spawning areas and into the postspawn patterns…What does that mean specifically. I pretty much just fish Minnetonka so not really interested in rivers or such.

    How I understand it.

Spawning is pretty much done most years by opener but sandy shallow areas less than 4ft.

After that I pretty much fish the outside weedlines for the rest of the year 2-16ft deep. How deep can you catch largemouth on tonka?

Tonka is a differant lake most. You can have pre spawn fish in one part of the lake and post spawn fish in another. Most fish on tonka are not done spawning by opener. Most fish will spawn where you can’t see them or are to deep to be seen by the untrained eye. Alot of the lake is to dirty to see most of them. I have caught bed fish in tonka in as deep as 12 feet of water and some small mouth as late june 20. As far as how deep you can catch them. I have a couple carolina rig spots where I am fishing rocks in up to 30 feet of water.

Like jd said, a lot of bass spawn in water 8-10′ on Tonka as well as other lakes well past opener. Pockets in the mifoil are good spots that are over looked. A lot of those post spawn fish luck in the thick weeds. It is nbot uncommon to catch bass out to 35′ in mid summer.

30-35′ that seems crazy, I do not think I have even fished for bass that deep. Is that where you get the big ones? Would you fish that deep in stained water or the clearer water or both.

So post spawn you say go to the open pockets in the milfoil, what type of fishing would you do and what depths would you look for them at.
