Trying new spots. Picked a 40ft hole surrounded by shallow water and setup in the best inside turn/corner at 30ft. Marked a lot of fish at 20ft from the get go but very inactive. Would not chase a Ratso or my other fav the Little Atom nuggie on a Optic stealth jig. So horizontal was not the way to go. Switched to Demons with minnows and waxies still nada. Tried a Genz bug a minnow hooked under the dorsal. Better but they were just impossible to hook. So I put on the lightest Genz bug I had and problem was solved. Still had to leave the bail open and let the fish take the bait a little and spring bobbers were an absolute must. My deadstick and bobber got more of the fish than jigging but the jigging action was needed to bring fish in. Once I got it figured out it was a pretty good night.

Five nice ones biggest one was over 12″ – longer than my boots and they are 12 and change long. Laid the big one on my boot to get a estimate. I don’t like to lay fish I am releasing on the ice. Can damage the eyes very easily. Released them and since I was fishing solo no pics.
