Well, Hit Coon again with my father. We hit the same spot as last time… almost straight out of the north access on the western shoreline. Today it was a little cold out… so we decided to run tip-ups and sit in the truck. Got out about 10am… within 15 minutes, had a flag up. My father finally broke his losing streak and pulled in a nice 28″ Northern. Unfortunately, the reports from the baitshop was correct… not much action. This was the last flag of ours that we saw all day. This pike was caught in about 6 FOW. We were set up between 6 and 8 FOW. We were using large shiners with Gold and Red #2 hooks. My experience on this lake is that Gold and Red hooks with Shiners work the best.. Though, you can also catch them using suckers or smelt. All in all, it was a good day. Nice to take my father out fishing again. He hasn’t been into ice fishing since I was a kid. Back then… I LOVED ice fishing… for about 10 minutes. Then I was bored out of my mind. I can see why my father gave up on it. My brothers and I must have been hell to deal with back then. Well, now I have a fondness for ice fishing. And I am glad to take my father out and teach him some of the advanced techniques and technologies. In fact, my father has gone out and spent about a hundred dollars on all new equipment, and is now looking at buying an ice house, underwater camera, and marcum flasher. Though I like to fish other lakes… and don’t really want to limit myself to only fishing tip-ups for Northern… I can never pass up an opportunity to fish with my father. No body knows what the future holds. And I could never forgive myself if I said no to him and then never had the opportunity to fish with him again. It was a great day today!!!

    Dave,

Thanks for the repost. I think all of would agree with the rest of your post. Any word on the crappie bite up there?
