Made it out for the first time on the ice for this year. The fish were not to active during mid day but when the sun started going down things picked up. Caught about 15 sunnies and a half dozen nice crappies. The sunnies went for a jig and waxies. Also caught one nice walleye on a set line with a plain hook and fathead minnow. If you go, prepare to fish in a carnival atmoshpere. I would suggest staying away from the large group and finding a nice quiet spot. Talking to some people in the group sounded like it was not good fishing around all the noise. There were people skating all over and yeah a few not so smart guys on 4 wheelers buzzing around. I was almost ran over on the way off the ice but I got the last laugh when they went through in 3 fow by the beach. They were ok but got very wet trying to pull their 4 wheeler to shore. I would recommend waiting for another cold snap before bring the wheelers out. There is ample ice(as of yesterday) for walking. Just watch out for the hole by the beach. All in all a good start to the season. Good luck everyone and stay safe out there. Think of the guys and their families that would have to come rescue you if you go through. It effects more people than you might think.
