Car on Waconia Saturday

Not sure who the brain trust was that drove out on Waconia Saturday, but sure got me thinking. Lots of shacks around the island this weekend.

I did not fish. I was helping a friend build an ice house. The weather was beautiful to be working outside. Too nice to be driving on the ice in my opinion. Can you imagine sitting out on your bucket and look over your shoulder to see a car driving on the ice. My luck, he would want to come fish my me.

I was out there several years back near the end of december… got my bait and seen people driving all over the place, small and huge vehicles alike. I assumed there was plenty of ice with all that traffic…

I drove out from In Towne and got to the bay where there was supposedly a great panfish bite going on… got out there, pulled out all the equipment… drilled a hole and there was 9″-10″ of ice. I felt really good about that considerig I was driving an extended 3/4 ton van at the time!

I saw a van out on Prior Lake yesterday around the same area where the six or so vehicles went in last year. Even my wife noticed that there was nobody around him fishing.

In many case it is nice to be first but I have no desire to be the first to drive a vehicle on any lake.

Thanks, but no thanks.
