Got out on Tonka last night for a few hours. It wasn’t too bad temp wise until the clouds cleared and the stars really started shining. Then it was all layers on. Sadly, that’s about all I have to report. Hit 6-8 channels with no fish to show for our efforts other than one hammer handle. Got off the water around midnight, not sure temp, but the water was freezing to the boat gunnels.

Hope to get back out again later this week or next weekend.

What were the water temps?? hope to be out the next few days. I like those mid 40s for channel trolling.

Then you will like it Mark. 46.5 in most areas, as low as 45.5. I was going to call but it was later afternoon and figured you had plans already.

Me and tonkaboy were out trying to troll skies on saturday morning. It was a bit brisk and we have nothing to show for our efforts. We decided casting was out since water was freezing in the rod tip and I didnt want that feeling on the hands. At least with the bigger boat we had the mr heater…yes, I am a wuss but was warm. Heading in across the main lake was a little rough, if it werent for the full windshield we would have been soaked. At least it was getting out there though. We may do the channell thing a little later this week.

Moby1, did you put in at Gray’s Bay on Saturday at about 7:00-7:30 a.m.? Were you in a late model Crestliner towed with the red Dakota?

If so, my buddy and I may may have launched right after you. We were in the gray and white starcraft, Ford Expedition with dual exhaust as the tow vehicle.

    Man that wind was ferocious.

We saw a couple guys putting the buddy heater in the boat and I thought that was what we were forgetting.

Our efforts put one small walleye (13.5″), lindy rig with a rainbow in the boat. Not worth fighting the wind or cold that day.

    Indeed that was us.
TB and myself gave it another go last night until about 9:30. We had a total of 8 or 9 muskie follows with one of them being a monster over 50″ but we could not get them to bite. It was unbelievable. Finally when we switched to trolling the channells for eyes, TB ended up getting about a 35″ skie. No eyes were had. Mabey the skie cruising the channell had something to do with that. Wonder how the buddy would work. We are using the single sunflower and it makes a huge difference in my fishing experience.
