I got out on Waconia on Saturday and boy was it windy. In the process of trying to stay out of the wind, as much as you can, we ended up getting into some nice fish.
All of the fish that we caught where in the 5-8 foot range, and came either close to green weeds or rocks. We caught ~10 bass with the biggest being around 3 lbs. They fish came on spinner baits (double willow leaf, slow rolled), Mann’s baby 1s (black gray), and a fat rap (chart and brown). The key for our success was to cover as much water as we could and keep tossing these baits out. Once we located a fish or good weeds/rocks we would concentrate on the area and try to milk it. Even when we figured out the general area of the fish we still had no luck getting them on plastics, oh well.
The big fish of the day was a 43-45” Muskie (we eyed measure it so forgive me if I over exaggerated it), that we figure was ~20+ pounds. This fish hit right next to the boat on the fat rap. After a nice little battle, my brother hand landing it, and a couple pictures, the fish was back in the water. What a trip. As I told a boat that was cruising by us Muskie fishing, sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.
I hope to get out there again soon, as I heard the people fishing yesterday in the FOM had some great luck.
