East of Forest Lake. Washington County Lake.
Launched Sunday morning after the cold front, rains, tornado & lightning storms rolled through. It absolutely downpoured on me from 5:30 AM until about 6:30 on my way to the launch.
First keeper was found in the reeds on the south end of the lake casting jigs around the perimeters.
3 more keepers we’re pulled by flipping into pads. (It was my first tournament bass from flipping in the pads) All that time spent in the middle of February flipping down the hallway into the dog dish was finally paying off
After that, cabbage in the east bay was the key to culling bigger & better fish. We captured about 12 more bass throwing cranks cross current on top of cabbage.
Partner & I came in 7th out of 9th. It was s tough start establishing a pattern. Surely a game of ounces ! 1st place was 12.75 lbs caught off the rocks between 7:00 & 9:00 am. The remaining 8 club members averaged 6-8lbs !!
It was one of the first tournaments where I didn’t catch a single pike ! It was nice to not lose any jigs ! I think I’m up to about $50.00 in lost lures to pike.
Jim Nordlund was my partner. We’re both members of Sunrise Bassmasters. Jim is a great guy & a pleasure to fish with.
Several of our club went to state with best finish 97th http://www.mnbf.org/TOC/2006/index.html
Our clubs Angler of the year award went to a guy who bagged 78.38 lbs of fish in 7 tournaments.
What a learning experience it was. If you love to fish & think your good at it… join a club !
