Got daughter #1 out for her maiden voyage in the boat this weekend. Not 5 mins into the trip and she fell off her seat onto the net handle, head first. Nice little lump and a bruise. I’m thinking the wife is gonna never let her go with me again. WAY TO GO DAD!!!!

Needless to say a few tears and a couple kisses from papa we were all better. A short boat ride later we were at the first spot we wanted to fish. Sadly so were 6 other boats. The lake was flooded with fisherman that morning.

We finally found a spot without anyone on it, for the first 15 mins anyway. We chased the small pods of panfish around with little success. However #1 had a blast banging the barbie pole on the gunnel. I was able to sneak in a few cast for muskies, but it was half hearted effort at best. I figured if anything, a ski would attack the casting dummy we were practicing with.

After about an hour of playing we sat down for a Krispy creme donut and then trolled our way back to the landing. One small panfish and a lump on the head was all we had to show for our efforts. However, it’s a memory that will stay with me for many years to come.

Sadly we had to get off the water before the big boats showed up. While I’m sure papa would have enjoyed the view, I didn’t want to have to worry about a 3 foot wake flipping the kid into the lake.

that is just awsome kooty!! I had my 2 boys out on the water with me and grandpa yesterday and he got to reel in his first sunny after dad set the hook. I had him standing on the front of the boat holding the rod and fish and I went to take a picture of him and found out that the memory of my camera was full, I forgot the memory card at home on the table. but it was a fun few hours out on the lake with grandpa and the boys. it was also grandpa’s first time out in dads new boat, he is now planning a trip to canada with my new boat. ha hahah but them memories are great. also my little 2 year old was trying to kiss all of the fish that made it to the boat. he got close a few times but grandpa was able to toss the fish into the water before he got the lips there.

    John,
Congrats on the trip with the little one..
You should have mounted that for her, I mounted all my kids’ first fish. My dau first was the smallest Northern I’ve ever seen, about 10 inches, and It still is proudly on the wall, (even after the last 26+ years).
You’ll be busy now, and a built in reason to “take her out” again. You know– father- daughter bonding..
    That is always fun.
    Enjoy….
    Jack…
