The mini league that was formed at work had us fishing at Crystal Lake last night. With plenty of pleasure boating, tubing, wake boarding and water skiing going on all night, finding a somewhat quite place to fish or just active feeding fish was a bit of a challenge for us.
We started out fishing plastic worms in 8-15 FOW. The sunny’s were out to get a free meal, but no real takers for bass. My partner fished continuously for the first hour or so throwing crankbaits and spinners – still no action.
The first strike came on a willow spinner, chartruese in color, but the fish came up short on the bite.
We then moved to some cover and started thowing scum frogs in the lilly pads. We managed one nice fish in the 3.5lb range from the pads – this fish was caught just in the lip with only one hook set. Another bite came about 15 minutes later, but was lost in the weeds.
Near 7:30 we moved to fish some underwater structure, again targeting fish with plastic worms. Our best luck came fishing Tequila Sunrise and Plum colored 7″ power worms. We had these baits rigged Texas style. Similar to the scum frog bite and missed spinner bite, these fish were all caught with the hook right in the lip.
Best fish of the night was 4 lb 12 oz, with two others in the 3.5 lb range.
