Mrs. Rootski said I could fish for a few hours if I could find someone to help me get the boat on and off the trailer. (I had surgery a week ago yesterday and I’m still a little banged up). I was able to recruit my cousin so off we went to Demontreville early this morning.

We got on the water around 4:30AM, I was using top water with the fly rod and cousin Bob was throwing jointed Rapalas. I wouldn’t say they were fired up today. I saw plenty of fish, including several that swam right up behind my Bug but refused to hit it. I also had a few snap at the bug and be on for a few seconds before they pulled off. Bob caught 2 nice fish, 15 and a 16 inches, on his Rapala. I switched to a sinking line and a chartreuse Clouser minnow and eventually connected with a dandy 19 inch Bass that pulled like a truck. This was in 5 feet of water over new cabbage. I spoke to a another couple guys who were having luck throwing Senkos into the shady spots. Not much in the way of weedbeds yet, it was pretty sparce.

After the last few weeks it was wonderful to be back out the boat again, first time since the Sturgeon Excursion!

Hope everyone has a great Holiday weekend.

That was me on the water you are speaking about. Did very well on Saturday and again on Monday throwing Senkos. Had 25-30 bass on Sat. and 21 being solo on Mon. A couple times I had 4 on 5 casts. Most were in the 16-17″ range but had 4 18″+ each day, also saw many swimming. With the mass of people on the water felt pretty good about the catch. Color seemed to make a big difference along with speed.

    Hey Schmidtty!

Wow you really tore them up. I’m surprised they were being so finicky about what they wanted but that’s what makes this a sport. Congrats on figuring it out . I also saw a fair number of fish just swimming around that weren’t acting very aggressive. My mistake was in sticking with the top waters for too long. As soon as I switched to a sinking line and a deep running fly I was in business.

I hope we run across each other again soon!
