I took the wife out for a little bobber fishing last night on Big Marine Lake. We tried to find some crappies in the pencil weeds but I only found one there. We did find quite a few sunnies that kept her happy, but crappies were scarce. We did find a few just before dark, but they were on the small side. They were on a slow tapering weed flat in 5-8 feet of water. I tried looking for schools in some deeper water, but didn’t mark any. There were only a few boats out there which suprised me. Just wondering if anybody knows if they spawned there already or not? I didn’t get a water temp, but it didn’t feel to warm. A lot of the pencil weeds were still tan/brown and not green. There were areas in shallow water where the weeds were green. This makes me think the water may not have been warm enough for them to spawn yet.

The month of June is the best month fo spawning sunnies. My favorite method is to sight fish the beds.

I was actually out on Big Marine on sunday only breifly because it was so cold. Didn’t get a bite. I was after some critters of the toothy variety though. But I did see some small sunnies in about a foot of water.

Sorry, I should have worded my question more clearly. I was looking for info about the spawn for crappies.

Fish them All- I do not think the crappie spawn on Big Marine has happened yet. My neighbor fishes the lake 3-4 times a week. I am usually the first one he tells when the spawn is on. Love2Fish.
