A last minute change of plan kept me in town this weekend and away from Mille Lacs. I can now relate to Martin’s post from last week. We had my brother’s kids out in search for some crappies and sunnies or anything to pull a bobber under. We found a pretty good bite!
Hit the water about 9:30am and got into fish right away. We hit a spot not far from the public launch that looked good on the Navionics map. A small hump that topped out at about 8 feet surrounded by 12 feet of water with some weeds. Most of the fish we got were your typical metro area size crappie that went about 8-9 inches. I got lucky and bumped into one that went 13 inches! We also got bass, sunnnies and of course one northern! But the crappies kept the bobbers down. Overall a good morning. We put 20 crappie/sunnies in the livewell.
Now, back to the kids. My brother’s kids are just now getting to the age where they can spend a day in the boat. They were real troopers putting in 5 hours without going back to shore. They really put a hurt on those fish! We all had a good time and look forward to the next trip. Hopefully pulling eyes on Milly.
Here is a video clip of Lea pulling in a northern. Too bad we had to put it back as the season is closed. These kid love to eat fish and this one was a keeper! Definitely the highlight of the morning!
This second clip is a shot of my 13 inch crappie. Nice to see WBL is still putting out these fish.
On a side note…… Jet ski season is now open…
