    What is the ice condition of the ice on Tonka. Are trucks still driving out….?
    I would like to get out tomorrow.
    Thanks

    Ice was 14″ last night. Still driving out but some standing water. 4 wheel drive a must and I’d think about chains. Some access points are toast.

    Oh and the crappies were biting. Not fast and furious but good enough.

    Stanman;

    Are you able to get some nice keepers out of those crappies?

    Nothing over 10″ but got more than limit of those. Hoping the ice holds out a little longer. Planning to do some shallow water searching for the big slabs and bull gills but I am out of town until the 19th. Chasing trout and walleyes in Utah. I must be a fish addicted idiot because I am not even taking my skis along.

    The only ski I would want to see out there would be of the Esox family!! Good luck, have a great trip!!

    Thanks for the reply Stan.
    I was able to get out Sat. night for about 4 hours. Between two of us, we caught about 40 crappies, with the biggest being around 12inches. The avg. size was 8-10inches. We were over approx. 15inches of ice.
    How is the snow going to affect the ice now? Anyone else out this past weekend?

    So where are some good accesses/spots to try if a fella has never been out on ‘tonka?

    I’d consider fishing Phelps, Black and Seton this time of year. Phelps is best accessed via a small park off Island View Rd or the public access by the Red Bridge off Tuxedo. Black is easy to access. Just park along Interlachen. There is a small park off Bartlett Rd that will allow you to get to Seton. You could also try Maxwell and Crystal Bays. Just use the public launch and walk out.

    I hear you about the skis! Utah has some reservoirs stocked with tigers and no one really pays much attention to them. They have gotten nice and fat on that trout diet. Sadly those ponds are still iced up but i’ll be out out this fall and give them a try.
