Had a few hours to spare, so I head out to Med. It’s fairly close to home. Didn’t get a rod down till about 4:45pm. Between my buddy and I we probably caught 20-30 crappies. We really had to pick through them but came home with 12 keepers from 9″-10.5″. I fished the outskirts of the crappie towns, in 28′-32′ of water. Fish were from 2′-15′ off the bottom. A small jigging spoon and dropper rig produced the most fish, but a minnow with red or green glow demon under and IceBuster held it’s own “the smaller the minnow the better and hooked upside down”. As the sun went down the bite seemed to feather off. After talking to some other folks that was out there before us. They believe the bite is best from 3-6:30. Which meant we caught the tail end of it. I measured 17″ of ice, with the top 3″ of frozen snow. Yes I did drive out, but I would still recommend using caution and don’t stray off the beaten path too much. So if ya wanna get some last icefishing there is some pan size crappies to be had on Medicine.

    Good luck and be safe

Congrats on the fish. Sounds like you had some good action out on Medicine. Also looks like the size of crappies out that has gotten better too. I remember 5-6 years ago when all you could catch out there was 6-7 inch crappies. Hopefully in the future they will get even bigger!!!

GOOD GOING MR. SPECIAL. I headed over to Sarah>We caught about 50 crappies but only 9 in the keeper size. Mostly suspended in 30 ft dpeth about 10ft down. Funny thing was several other guys were fishing in the area but out in 40ft not more than 20ft away and catching zip. That school just didn’t move. I’ll be on Tonka tonight.
