Wow looks like nobody is doing much ice fishing. Was out a few nights. Found 8 to 9″ of ice. Marked lots of fish and caught zip. Walleyes are just super fincky right now. Passed the time by catching mini perch by the dozens. Almost time to switch to chasing pike and crappies anyway.

I haven’t even wet a line out there this winter. I heard a few flags were going off in Spring Park for a couple buddies over the holiday week. They also said they caught some decent crappies after dark.

I havent been playing around on Tonka at all. All of my fishing efforts have been within the city limits, and a couple trips north to rush and Mille lacs.

Fishing has been consistent everywhere that I have fished. I havent had any problems coaxing walleyes to bite.. but more have been coming up on a plain hook and fathead vs the jigging spoon.

Decided to chase panfish on Tonka. Excellent choice Smithers. Drilled a hole dropped down the transducer and marked a solid four feet of fish. So there we stayed. Non stop action. All blue gills until about 4pm when we switched to minnows and got into a great crappie bite until sun went down. It was drop the jig wait about 30 seconds and set the hook. I had one crappie come flying up a good 5ft to hit my jig as it was falling down. We were off an inside turn in 17ft of water in a main lake basin. Also lost a nice pike on a tipup. Broke the line. Another group near us iced 3 pike in the 30″ range. Guess I won’t be fishing walleyes on Tonka until next spring
