Got to keep up with the mighty Schnauzer . Out trolling tonight and we got a 20″, 22″, 27″ and a 28″ walleye as well as a 10lb anchor. (10lb Power Pro can lift 10lbs ). Trolling at 2.2mph fire tiger #12 HJs. Question for the gurus. Why do Tonka walleyes prefer faster speeds than the 1.5mph or slower you need for Mille Lacs? I tried slower speeds and got squat. Did not see another boat all night. I just love deer opener. Water temp was 48. The big walleye bite is on!

    Mark,
    Congrats on your nice Eyes.
I do not have an answer to the faster speeds. Just goes to show if one color or speed doesn’t get a few bites, DO IT differently til they turn around.
    any pics this time.?????

Got 10 more to go on the old fashioned film so I may just post best of season in two weeks. I’ve got too much 35mm equipment to switch over to digital. But the big wallys are on the prowl. Next weekend should be fantastic.

Ha! Well done. I think it would take me a while to match those totals. I think the more questions that get answered, additional ones always seem to take their place. I have been going at the slower speeds. Your experiences will certainly spur me to mix in some faster passes.

    Congrats on a great evening!

    Thanks for the update Stan.

I think my year for the open water is now done. Time to pack up the boat for the winter!

By the way, did you get “bit off” by any skis while trolling at night?

Friday night in fact. HJ 14 went to lure heaven. I am surprised I haven’t had more musky hits but then the water is still a little warm. I want to tag into the musky that chows down on 24″ walleyes!
