    Beautiful!!!!!!

    I plan on sticking every single musky in that lake during October 7th, 8th, & 9th.

    That is it for me for the year…….Then I’m putting away the gear and it is all walleyes after that…….

    John;
    Are you fishing it?

    You got to hang in there with the muskies Gary. My boat got a 54″ today on Tonka (I played netman). Fish was a brute. And it will only get better! But you are right my week night fishing will be walleyes from now on.

    Here’s the pic (hopefully) That’s Matt Magon the happy angler holding his biggest musky to date. Pic doesn’t quite do the fish justice as Matt is holding it at an angle. SHe was really thick across the shoulders. I had a 48″ wooden ruler and she was 5″ longer than it and that’s not counting the sag in the fish or any tail pincing. Wish I’d had gotten a girth to get a better idea of weight but we only took one photo and back in the water she went. Good quick release.

    I spotted that fish (I recognize the point) earlier this year. Actually, my buddy first spotted it first and he then spotted his shorts . She was up against the rocks in about a foot of water.

    At first, I thought it was 2 carp, swimming together, because it isn’t everyday that you see something THAT big.

    I actually thought that fish would push 60″………We made a couple of cast in her direction, but she slipped off into deeper water. However, most of our time was in animated suspense, staring at her……

    We’ve been chasing her off/on and it was where I raised a high 40″ fish 2 weeks ago…..

    WOW, what a huge TUNA!!!!!!

    Incredible fish!!!!!!!

    Good job!!!!

    Darn Gary. I thought I was the only one who knew about that spot. I’ve caught several nice mid 40s in that area and have never really seen anyone else picking it apart. Kooty whenever you want to go I’m game. Same for Gary. The musky came out of 3ft of water. Matt must have conked her on the head because the lure didn’t even get wet before she chomped it. She took off for deep water and we knew it was a decent fish as the drag was singing. Got my first glimpse as I was getting ready to net her and I about dropped the net. Way cool.

    If you go around the point, to the west and back into the bay, search around and you will find a nice little cabbage bed in the mil foil. That is where I have been finding most of my fish in that area.

    Mark;
    Have you been working the channels yet for the eyes???

    I’ve just about got the honey do list knocked out. So I plan to hit Tonka some in the next few weeks. Channels should turn on any day now(not that you can’t catch eyes in them all year long). Especially with the cool weather coming. I’ll be in touch Mark.

    Gary and I should be on the water this weekend sometime chasing skis, maybe we will run into you.

    I know the spot well. Cabbage had laid down by Sat and about 5 other boats hammered it before I could take a pass at it. Tried some Bulldawgs and Swimbaits there just to give the muskies something different but no go. There is a monster musky that hangs out not far from there on a mid lake hump north of Crane. Get a lakemaster map and you’ll see which hump I mean. That girl is for sure over 60″. Haven’t got her to chomp on anything yet and I have thrown it all.

    Weird thing was I was killing some nice green carp on a brown CJ spinner all day but no one musky not even a follow. Finke would be jealous.

    I had some luck working the channels two weeks ago but the warm weather shut that down. Got zipped last night. Moved out to deeper water but couldn’t find anything. Anybody know where the northerns are hiding? I always get several of the slimers everytime out and but not this fall. I’ll be out tomorrow night and Friday and Sat for sure. It’s piggie time and I’ve got to beat 54″!!

    Mark,
    Very nice 54, and good luck in beating it. you may as well take your friend so he can share net duties. hope to get out more this Fall. So many great fish, and so little time.

    Mark,

    Don’t knock my carp man. Sometimes I think you guys try to hook them and leave them on for musky bait. I hope they were good size. Speeking of channels, I have actually done quite well for bass in the channels with a weightless stickworm. Still waiting for the walleyes to load up. Its fun casting for them at night.

    The bass were released in fine shape – got to keep the musky baitfish population up if you want big muskies The bass were thick on the inside edge and sand flats. Might go chase them again on Sat if my favorite species is not cooperating.

    Do you guys ever use bass colored bucktails, cranks, etc? And if so, is it a good color patter on bass lakes like Tonka?

    For some reason natural colors don’t work for me on Tonka. Black, orange and brown are the go to colors. After that white. I’ve tried bass, northern and perch patterns and haven’t caught anything. SInce I’ve had several muskies attack small bass and pike as I was reeling them in you would think those patterns would work.

    I’m a big fan of the red/black colors for the lake. Firetiger seems to do well on topwater for me too, as well as a good bucktail go-to.

    But it is hard to beat the black/red combo on any type of lure for that lake.

    Also, brown is another good color, with the copper blade.

    I must admit, my Phantom in the “pink” color has really worked well for me this year………Although Todd from Phantom says it is “bubblegum” color……..I will still call it the pink jerkbait!

    Does anyone know if they can prefish this weekend for the big tourny, I,m going to pool 2 on saturday but I might hit Tonka on sunday, I have a feeling this front is going to cool things off a bit and if 50 guys are out prefishing that won’t help either, also thought I would give it until Sunday so this cold front has a chance to go threw. I just want to catch one more musky.

    You may see some guys pre-fishing……..But my gut feeling is that most of them will be trying to locate fish and not stick them.

    That looks like the point on Crystal Bay? Is it? I’ve only been there once, so I’m probably way off!

    BTW – Did any of you guys see the little Viking Fiesta cruise they had last Thursday evening on Minnetonka?
