For a little change of pace I spent the day with an old friend chasing Muskies on Bryant Lake in Eden Prairie. This is a small lake (160 acres) that has been stocked with Tigers. After launching the boat I realized I had left the boat keys at home so we were stuck using the trolling motor all day. I can guarantee that will never happen again! It was tough dragging a 16 foot Lund and two guys around through 20 MPH winds with just a trolling motor all day. The strategy we decided on was to run the shorelines using smaller sized crankbaits and plastics. This resulted in some good mutli-species action over the course of the day. First we hit a group of Bass on the outside edge of a bed of coontail. They fell for a large crankbait ripped off the weed tops. A pause in the retrieve triggered most of the strikes. Next up Partner nailed a 35 inch Tiger on a small Grandma bait cast right next to a dock. These are really beautiful fish. Continuing around the shore we had several more follows, more Bass action, and a 30 inch Northern. All of this action came on crankbaits. Bucktails and spinnerbaits didn’t seen to get it done today. There is a very thick bed of coontail in front of the public fishing dock and there were several 16-18 inch Bass on the edge of it. If the wind is blowing into this bed of weeds it should provide some decent shore fishing action.
