Been a month since I was last on the lake. Fished muskies for a couple of hours. Nothing doing. Sun was getting low so I thought I’d longline some shallow weed edges for walleyes. Got a 18″ and a pair of 22″ in short order trolling a husky jerk. Decided to try out some new shad rap colors and other crankbaits but bite was already over by then. Looks like the fall walleye bite is already starting.

I was just telling the neighbor last night that we needed to start hitting the channels and weedlines on Tonka. Thanks for the update!!
September 15, 2005 at 2:32 pm #384175Given the cold front I was not expecting much. I just needed to get out on the water. Nice night and I had the lake to myself (except for an occasional cruiser). Trying to figure out how to get out every night this weekend. Moon phase is spot on for some evening trolling. Kooty you ever have any luck with the Narrows and Zimmerman’s pass trolling for eyes??
September 15, 2005 at 2:43 pm #384179I’ve never fish Zimm, but not a thing in the Narrows, trolling or live bait.
jldiiPosts: 2294September 15, 2005 at 2:46 pm #384182I was on Tonka yesterday during the middle of the day. We hooked into a couple largemouth and a smallie, then went after some muskies. Raised a couple, landed a very small one about 35″, and had a big one swing and miss on a black/silver spinner bait.
September 15, 2005 at 4:28 pm #384211Never a thing at the narrows. Not sure about Zimmermans.
Red bridge has always been a good bet spring and fall. Work the hole facing goose island then troll through the bridge till you hit 10 to 12 feet of water. This spot seems to get much better after the first frost.
Let us know how it goes. I have’nt fished Eyes’ very hard the past couple of years.
September 15, 2005 at 5:19 pm #384226Red bridge is Zimmerman’s. Bridge is now green so I’m not sure what to call it now.
September 15, 2005 at 7:00 pm #384246No wonder I was scratching my head. Now that I know where you are talking about, I have not fished that area(except first ice for crappies). I would think trolling there would be a major pain with the weed growth in that channel???
JohnDennisPosts: 5September 20, 2005 at 2:04 pm #385008Is that anywhere to camp on Minnetonka, thinking about coming up this weekend from Iowa.
September 20, 2005 at 4:01 pm #385026So would this be my best bet for camping? I would like to have a place right on the lake, but i guess if i would have to drive, then so be it.
Is the lake crowded right now at all? Thanks!
September 21, 2005 at 12:58 pm #385197With 1/4 acre lakeshore lots selling at about $750,000 you don’t find camping on the lake anymore. Up until last year you could have camped on the VFW grounds on Big Island but even that is gone now. You could boat out to Wawatosa island and camp there but no amenities. Lake is getting uncrowded very fast. Weekday nights hardly anyone but fishermen out. If weather is good you will run into traffic on the weekends but it is bearable.
jldiiPosts: 2294September 21, 2005 at 1:58 pm #385222If you find weekend boat traffic on Minnetonka bearable, my friend, you have way more tolorence than most people I know, including myself!
September 21, 2005 at 6:34 pm #385314Any news on bass fishing? Anyone have pics from the HAWGS being pulled out of there yet?
September 22, 2005 at 2:38 am #385422Ya know….I always hear about the”fabulous” fall fishing. But….at the last tourny on Clearwater…and all of the Sept tournys on tonka…..I always ask ” Just when does this great fall fishing happen”
The weights are just going downhill!
I never fish once duck season opens….so maybe it happens after that?
Maybe its just great cause you don’t have to battle cruiser wakes all day?
September 22, 2005 at 1:17 pm #385449During duck season Actually it really gets going after the first frost. Water temps need to be in low 60s and it goes pretty much to ice up. I snuck out last night for about an hour. Sunset, big front heading in figured the muskies have to be feeding. First cast with a LOW Rider and a low 40s ski comes barreling after the lure. Ran out of water before it could catch up. The fish almost hit my boat it was coming so hard. I did one lousy figure 8 and the musky was gone. I am thinking it’s going to be hot but NOOOO. That was it.
