Not sure if this is the right Metro forum, but this lake is between the 35’s, so I posted here. After posting about the crappy weather and fishing, I had to test out a prop that I have on loan from Mr. Koonce on this beautiful evening. So after halfway cleaning out my boat from the big Musky opener I hit a lake close to where I grew up, to do some speed runs to check out the prop. See other post about prop.
With only limited daylight left, I decided to check out the fishing and the plan was to throw some Bucktails for more Muskie. Well the lake was packed with the ususal pleasure boaters and a few fisherman. I noticed a really high water temp reading of 73 degrees. Seemed high but it was warm yesterday. My main muskie spot was occupied, so I decided to drive around and see if I could graph some eyes. Graph some eyes I did . So I marked a few spots and put the Vantage down in the water and backtrolled some Lindys withg a leech, red bead and red hook. I found the fish to be really stacked in the 20 – 22 fow range. It did not take long to boat my first eye. a 16″ eye that just sucked in my bait and alls I felt was added weight to my rod and began to load up, so I fed her line for the 10 count and made my sweep. What a nice suprise as I worked a little further down the break a skier whizzed by me at about 40′ . About the same time as he passed me I felt a tap -tap on the other end. I gave her line again and this time boated a nice fat 22″ er. I looked over the boat that was anchored up on the rock pile in 8 fow and he gave me the thumbs up. The clouds were starting to move in and skies were starting to get dark. I boated two more eyes ( 14″ and one around 6-8″) and also missed a nice bite when I was caught off gaurd. I released all these fish to swim another day.
This outing was no fluke for this north metro lake. I have done this before on this lake and even better. I have yet to pull a big one out of there but I witnessed 3 fish over 7lbs pulled from this same area last Summer. One would not believe with all the boat and PWC traffic, that you could catch Eyes or Skies from this lake, but they are there. I caught my biggest two fish last night when there was traffic on the lake and the smallest two when there was nobody out there. I guess I was the only one dumb enough to be out there yet with the storm nipping on the edge of the lake .
