Anyone doing any walleyes on Tonka???

I have some free time Saturday evening and am thinking about giving her a shot.

Opener was not good. Marked plenty of fish but no takers. Same for Monday night. Tried everything even crappie sized stuff but they just would not bite. Fish were really schooled up tight. Biggest schools I’ve ever graphed on Tonka. I switched back to chasing crappies last night and got into a bunch of nice sized males. Water temps 55 to 56 main lake and back bays. Heard Halsted’s channel put out a few fish but it’s been late at night mostly.

Let me know if you are out there Gary. I might meet you out. Depends on if I’m on the pond or not.

    Hey Koot!!!

    Yes I will!!!

It looks like I may be up on the Pond or St. Louis on Sunday. Not just too sure where the truck is taking me.

But I’m currently negotiating with the boss to let me go Saturday eve too.

    I will keep in touch!!!

I fished tonka saturday morning and I couldn’t buy a fish, from the way the boats were moving around I don’t think anyone was really getting into them. I mainly fished the diamond reef area.

I fished all day on Sunday and was unable to put a walleye in the boat…..I probably used the wrong approach in that I’m not familiar with the lake and I spent a lot of time bumping different spots but was unable to find any active fish. I will be back out again this weekend and hopefully able to find some willing walleyes. The highlight of the slow day was landing a 46 1/2 ski in 3 ft of water on my 5 1/2 ft rod.

Plenty of muskies active in shallow. Very tempting because they won’t be there come opener. No one is having success for walleyes. Strange spring. The guys prefishing for the MWT this weekend are getting skunked too. Hopefully either the usual spots will turn on or someone will unlock the secret over the weekend. I’ll be out but probably focus more on crappies to stay out of the tourney guys way.

I’ve got pics, but I’m not in the digital age….my disposable Kodak did the job…..I’m also prefishing for the MWT…..sure would like to have 46 1/2″ of walleyes come Sunday…..but as of now, Tonka is only dishing up a lot of humble pie for me!!!

I’m not much of a walleye guy during the summer, but the channels almost always produce around sunset this time of year. This bite only lasts about week. Got out Thursday morning for some Pike and managed a few on the weededge. The bass and muskies look to be spawning right now.

Thanks for the update. I didn’t make it out though. Went to bed nice and early on Saturday, only to get up @ 3am to go to the St. Louis river on Sunday….

Great catch! God, I wish I would have tried the lake prior to this winter. Sounds like a great experience over there…
