Spent the day with my good friend Bill. We got on the water about 10AM and stayed until about 8:30PM. There’s at least 24 inches of ice out there. It’s been a while since I’ve been on that much ice and thought the vexilar wasn’t working until I realized that I had to drop the tranducer lower down the hole We tried 5 or 6 different spots, anywhere from 5 feet to 26 feet of water. During the day all we saw and caught were perch and most of them pretty small. After dark we managed to catch some Crappies. They wouldn’t touch a minnow. The best presentation seemed to be Genz bugs in glow-red anda wax worm. It was still pretty slow. They’d sit and stare at your jig forever. If you’d slowly raise the jig and get them to chase it then sometimes they’d hit. No flags today as the Pike didn’t seem to be very active either. The weather must have all the fish in a negative mood. We never saw caught a sunfish all day.
It was a good day to have a propane heater and a portable!
