    And one more for good measure – I don’t want to look like I’m gloating (I am but tough). This is Tonka Boys big fish.

    Nice fish guys! Apparently it pays to work the local waters. Keep those photos coming.

    Blue Alumacraft – Yahama tiller. Probably done with Tonka. It’s either Pool 2 til it ices or Pool 4. You guys running in a Crestliner? Sat was zip for me. Not sure why. Last night was decent but either the fish inhaled the lure or they hit short – no in between.

    Did we snag up with you in the channel with the railroad tressel crossing it?? If that was you, what speed were you running at?? We were in the black crestliner. Hard to miss Gary. He’s a pretty tiny guy. I’ve had to knock him around a little when he get’s mouthy.

    Yep. That was me. I keep telling everyone to troll faster! I run between 1.8 and 2.4mph. Gets a little tough when the jig and minnow crowd gets in there at dead slow. I outfish the “slow” boats 2 or 3 to 1 and they still continue to putt slowly through. Last night I had the place to myself and it made a difference. Saturday I got skunked but I was after a big musky that’s been hanging north of the trestle for most of the time. It owes me 3 lures. FYI fire tiger is NOT the color for that channel. Works well in Halsted’s but not there. You try anywhere else that night?? I did some shore trolling and spent a little time at the red bridge but didn’t do anything in either place.

    Hey Stan;

    That was us! Thanks for being kind enough to give me my lure back!!!

    Jon will have to tell you the places we fished. I’m kind of green with that part of the lake and it was my first time eye fishing there. I’m normally ski fishing on Tonka……

    We tried halsted’s also. Skunked both places. We started out trolling fast with the big motor, no luck so we slowed down with the trolling motor. I didn’t make it over to the red bridge. As a matter of fact, I haven’t been through there since the construction completed. I know it’s darn good first ice for crappies, but we never catch much for eyes in there.

    Jon, you are right about it being a crappie spot but I know of two 27+” walleyes that came out of there last week. Not a trolling spot of course – cast cranks or jig minnows. Some nice muskies have come from the Phelps bay side between the bridge and the old launch area. And a lot of green carp. Gary, the channels are a hot spot for muskies this late in fall. Same tactic as big walleyes, troll at speed and keep at it. I usually pick one channel and stay there all night. The fish will be moving through sometime. I’m playing the big fish game. Takes a bit of patience and more than few nights of getting skunked but it works. If you want action and numbers on Tonka hit the east end – Brackett’s and Diamond reef. Some nice spots in Cook’s bay too for deep jigging. Just not my thing. Even on Pool 4 I’d much rather cast or drag than do the yo-yo.
