We had our last tournement of the year on Sat (sorry about the time delay in post) and what a great day it was on the water. I would like to say that the best part of the day was the fishing but it wasn’t. The trees are close to full colors on the lake and that made it ever more enjoyable to be out there.
My partner and myself started the day by fishing a shallow weed flat and on the 5th cast I connect with a 3.5# largie on a pop’r. I wish I could say that the topwater action was consistent but that was the only bite that I had all day throwing it and other topwater.
After not getting another bite on this weed flat we started fishing shorelines that usually hold some nice fish in the fall. We ended up finding sporatic fish on some docks. Some of the docks that we caught the fish on ‘looked’ like they should be holding fish while ones that shouldn’t hold anything held some. The best docks that we found, very close to deep water with great structure held nothing. The best part about the fish we did catch under the docks was that they where nice size. So we decided to fish all the shorelines and docks that we thought might have some good weed growth around them. We switched off between senkos, spinnerbaits, small cranks, topwater, and jigs but the only thing that we found to work was the senkos under the docks.
I had a coupple of knocks in deeper water on a spinnerbait but it felt a little northerish.
At days end: winning weight was 13.6 and I finished second with 12.8.
It was a tough day on the water with not many limites brought in. There was another club tourney out there that seemed to have done about the same.
On a side note: The weeds are still very thick in the shalow so bring a knife.
