Taking a friend out fishing this weekend and he lives in stillwater. Was thinking about trying Big Carnelian and have never fished it, anyone got any tips.

Thinking about fishing it for what?

It’s got some structure and “on paper” it looks good. Lots of stunted panfish as is typical with most metro area lakes. There has to be bigger panfish on there somewhere, but if anyone’s got it figured out they aren’t talking. I had good crappie action there some years ago, but word got out and they were trawled out within days.

I’ve done OK on bass numbers wise, but size seems to be hard to come by. No idea about pike and never caught a walleye on that lake.

Very nice bass in there. Probably shallow right now, but look for deep rocks mid- summer!

The numbers for eye’s don’t look good, was hoping to maybe get into some pike. Was hoping to put in at William Obrien but with the water so high I don’t care to deal with the river and the trees that must be floating down and I am trying to avoid White Bear and the crowd.

I tried fishing quite late one night for an eye or two, and didn’t get any. this was on the recommendation from a land owner on the lake.

Walleyes are shallow right now as well. Stick to under 10ft.Look at a map, find the structure. Gravel with nearby weeds is the key right now..Points, inside turns, etc. Get out there and you will find the spot on the spot.

Like said earlier, you really have to find the spot on the spot to catch fish on this lake. There are some nice weed flats where fish can be holding to. Tons of Tiny pike in this lake.
