From my outings this year, and from hearing from other people it has been a tough bite everywhere this year. What are you all doing to switch things up or changing tactics to get these fish biting? I’ve tried different locations, to small baits/lures to large. Nothing seems to be making any difference this year.

Seems like we’ve been stuck on high pressure the entire season. You’re not alone. Just gotta wait for stable weather.

I heard that from people in South Dakota all the way to the Mississippi River. But, stable weather, I think, doesn’t mean 4 days of -20 & windy!!! The bite has been tougher for me. I have actually had to “work” at what the fish want. A learning experience, to say the least.

We had good luck today with small tackle, 1-2 pound test mono (for panfish) and very aggressive jigging. Getting more of the reaction bite rather than the active feeding bite.

My fishing had been pretty good this ice season up til last friday. That was the first I really had to work for them and never did get it going. Tactics this year have been drilling a lot of holes, keep moving and aggressive jigging to get reaction bites. This has been for crappies. main lure has been a larger shrimpo.

Are you trying different lakes. Even with my slow bite on Friday a guy I know was on the next lake over and had action all day. Have had trips in the paast where packing up and changing lakes in the middle of the trip was the way to go.

Good luck. Hope the bite changes soon for you.

Yeah we’ve gone to a few different lakes. Going to be hitting Big Marine and Chisago this next weekend if the weather is bearable. I’ve caught some nice fish this year but it’s been so few and far between. Makes me feel a little better hearing most people are having a tough year.
