    Hey All Fishermen:

I know each of us has opinions and we all like to share them and complain about the way access layouts are done. Well, here is your opportunity to have some input into a ramp reconstruction project coming to the West Metro as I sit on the Carver County Park Commission, advising the County Board on Park Issues.

I have attached 4-photo’s of various options our consultant has given us for Lake Minnewashta Regional Park.

1st restriction is limited to 35 Vehicle & Trailer spaces by the conditional use permit from the City of Chanhassen.

Our plan is to reconstruct this currently single lane ramp to a double since we have closed access #2 on the main lake due to being very shallow, etc.

For those that do not know the site and those that do, the parking area sits on a pretty good slope. The access road going past the Access on the South side climb a steeper grade as it continues West.

I have a Poll here for you to Vote on your pick of the best layout. Once, you’ve voted, please leave comments or P.M. me with comments on likes and dis-likes.

We as the County Park System want this to be a good ramp to be easy to get in and out. Natural Grades and Wetlands, etc. all play a part in making this project a little challenging.

The Tentative schedule would make this a 2015 or 2016 project.

It looks like they have some Non – Trailer parking in the plan. Is there a reason why they do not plan for more non trailer spots – It looks like there is more room in that area that would allow for it. Lots of boaters often have someone meet them at the ramp for a day of fishing. Nothing worse than when those people flow over into a limited # of boat trailer spots ( Marked for tailer parking or not )

How about combining the layout of 1 with the north
parking lot of 3? That will provide more parking.

    Thanks for the post.

Huh? Not to be rude, but that doesn’t make sense and the restriction is max 35 parking spaces.

I prefer diagonal parking as it is easier to get in and out of parking spaces without dragging the trailer across the front of an adjacent rig. Actually, I’m thinking of the guy next to me doing that to me while I’m out wailing on the fish. The overflow area would be used for the afternoon crowd. By its being remotely located it would reduce the congestion at the ramp lot. Too many rigs in the main lot can make getting in and out of parking spaces very frustrating. I favor #2 for these reasons. Only thing I don’t see a need for is the roundabout.

I vote round about because I want to see guys come in with the boat and have to circle around that and have their trailers pop up on the inner curb.

Seriously, I got no horse in this, but that round about to me looks like trouble. I am guessing a lot of people will be throwing out cuss words going around that.

Unless I am not getting something, which is very possible.

    Some good comments, Thanks

Yes, we are limited to 35-Boats at launch (35-vehicles & Trailers). Not, sure if there is a limit on number of single vehicle parking slots. Yes, I believe there should be a few more, perhaps 12-14 or 1 single slot for every 3-vehicle & trailer slots.

I don’t understand why they put a round-about in there and see no need for it.

To put another perspective on the Concept 3 with all angled, pull-in/back-out was done looking at keeping costs down and some people will not want to walk to a remote lot. Although the stalls in the middle may be able to pull through as the lines may just be painted.

Opinions on a modified Concept A plan?

    Includes the 35 Vehicle-Trailer stalls

Updated to 12 Single vehicle stalls

Keeps everything as close as possible to the Ramp, Not sure exactly how it would fit Site, but would something like this be a good compromise if it would work?

Seeing the polling and comments seem to favor Angled pull-thru parking, I may propose another alternative.

Take Concept A, the far right photo.

Change all the center stalls to be angled.

Eliminate the center island and drive-thru,

Eliminate the 5-angled stalls on the south side (old entrance) and

Add those in the center in place of the island and drive-thru.
