It’s been awhile since I got to fishing all day without having to be anywhere else. Sunday was the perfect day for that, and i loved the weather.

Started early afternoon, took a chance on the river by the mill ruins I was told (I never heard it called that before)
Trying for anything, if anything we were catfish drivin.

I got a brand new doppler/flasher i got to use for the first time. I wrote “ColeyCrawler” on it so it doesn’t get mixed up with others. All three of us; Jeremy L., Singler(angler-x), and I gave it a shot. While they drilled holes I went back by the flowing water.

Overall the inner city fishing was a bust, but worth the try.

Next we headed to a lake in the north-metro. I was asking on the way what fish can we catch, I wanted to catch a walleye or a catfish. As we pulled up, Jeremy said “dangit, people are on “my” spot” he was a bit miffed by that then realized it was our friends. We drilled some holes at about 14-15 feet. I dropped my doppler in the hole and it started going nuts with action. I was so excited!

We caught a bigger sized crappies almost instantly, I started having ALOT of fun! Soon after arrival Jeremy popped his head in the house with a walleye! I was not expecting that, but that was exactly what I wanted to catch. Using Stinglers technique (a glowing jigging spoon) but instead of euro larvae I put a minnow on one of the hooks…. and IT WAS ON!

I caught big ol’ Crappies and 2 Walleyes, ahh…the noise of the drag being pulled!

When I caught the first Walleye I screamed and wanted to tell the entire lake, but quickly and respectively advised to hold in my screams… About 20 minutes Jeremy yells to me “Coley I need your help” I told him to wait “Cole I’m not going to get this out of the hole without your help” haha he did and it was a BASS! WHAT?? I’ve never caught a Bass ice fishing!

Sunday was the 2013 best fishing day so far! Can’t wait to have more.

Miss Crawler I really thought this was going to be a walleye and pike kind of multispecies then I saw you posted it…..

Always cool to see a carp caught on the ice! Congrats on getting your target too.

Thank you! yea, thats why I wanted to fish the river to get more species, but I was happy with the Walleye.

I will have to ask Stingler how he figured out ice fishing for carp. Stingler you there?

Gob a bunch of stuff on a hook, euros, wax worms, corn — whatever works in the summer. The key is when they come thru, its usually high in the water column, higher than crappies even. They either smack it or take it so lightly you won’t see your line move.

Looks like a great time, that carp looks like it would have been a blast to catch through the ice.

You are actually fishing the downtown side of Mill Ruins? I don’t know if I would have the nerve. Sure would be fun to try sometime. Nice post.
