metro ice report

Anyone been out recently? How many inches are on the area lakes? Bald eagle? Big marine? Any info would be appreciated. Thinking about heading out to a few lakes and checking the ice out.

Went out on Pickerel Lake in St. Paul and the ice over the deep “sweet spot” on the southeast corner is not quite ready. Tapped a little test hole and at the first whack a 50 foot crack split right in front of my toes and a little water splashed up through the length of the crack. The shallow area on the north side has close to 4 inches of ice and is solid. I didn’t see any other tracks in the snow or test holes from anyone else, so it is still a short waiting game. Hopefully by the end of the weekend we’ll get the extra thickness to start getting after it.

In the fist pic of Bald Eagle there were 6 guys fishing in that area on Wednesday with two portables. The second pic of Bald Eagle there was a 4 wheeler about 20 feet from shore with a guy ice fishing. The pic of Peltier had three guys with two portables. The last pic is from Bald Eagle. Bald Eagle had 4-5″ as did Peltier.
