Yesterday morning I hit Prior Lake for a few hours. I got a tip that there was a good panfish bite in 8-12 feet and nowhere near any of the crowds (there really are no crowds this year). The area didn’t disappoint as I had a blast catching bluegills and crappies for a few hours. The highlight of the day for me is that all of these fish bit on plastics. I rarely fish plastics, but when I got out there and realized all of my wax worms were dead I decided to give it a shot. I had very few “lookers” on the day and with the plastics I could quick unhook the fish and drop back down to the school. The largest bluegill was 9 1/4″ and released to be a 10″ fish for me to catch next year. I didn’t get any pictures, but I took some video with my GoPro camera. Now I just need to get a computer so I can get the video off of there.
The ice was 10-12 inches with a nasty looking ice heave nearby. I took my snowmobile out, but I did see some vehicles out there. There is no way I would be driving.
