Over the holiday weekend I had the opportunity to hit the ice on Friday and Monday. On Friday we fished a lake up by Princeton and had great action all morning. Most of the fish were small perch, but my brother and I both ended up with a nice meal of crappies and walleyes to take home. The ice was 5-6 inches thick, but there were some open areas right near shore. I had the snowmobile out and didn’t have any problems
On Monday, we hit Prior lake and found a school of very active bluegills. We walked out to 25′ and found 6-7″ of ice in every hole. The action was fast and furious and the average size was much better than years past as well. After breaking the line on my powernoodle, I grabbed my quiverstick with a 1/16 oz forage minnow and proceeded to have no problem catching bluegills as fast as I could get my line down. They were crazy!
