So I have been looking all over the message boards to try and find some thing about other peoples preferences on how they like to catch their fish, but I haven’t found anyone talking about it, so I thought I would start my own thread.
Tell us how you like to rig up your poles for bass. Walleye. Muskies and northerns. Using artificials. Stuff like that. Let’s get this conversation going!!

The reason I wanted to start this thread is because I do slot of bass and walleye fishing, and try to use a bunch of different techniques. But I always find myself just Texas riggin for bass. And lindy riggin for walleye. While both being very good techniques for me and produces alot of fish. I would like to have slot of other ideas in my arsenal for different sinarios.. So what do you guys like to rig up??

My bread and butter for bass is Texas rigging. That pole allows me to fish slow and at the bottom of the water column. I can switch to many styles of plastics without retying. I then have another pole with something that I can work the middle of the water with. Often times it is a spinnerbait. Then I typically have two rods that will hold topwater lures. One almost always has a leader on it with a spook or buzz bait. The other usually has a swivel with a popper or a frog of some sort. Then, I always have an UL with a bobber step up for pannies. That little guy stays in my side bunk. As you can tell, I typically don’t target walleyes in the summer. But, my jigs are always handy.

For fishing pool 2 walleyes you could go the entire year with a jig on one pole and a snaplock on another and my preference would be to have braid on both poles.

If you were to look in my rod locker at any given time, you would most likely find a:

7’6″ Falcon Expert flippin stick with a beaver tied on.

7’3 GLX with a carolina rig

7’0″ GLX with a football head

7’0″ loomis cranker with a Rap DT 10

7’3″ Carrot Stick cranker with a DT 16
both the above rods double as swim jig or trap rods for shallow water

6’8″ Avid spinning rod rigged with some sort of tube

6’6″ Cara spinning rod with a senko
6’3″ Crucial with a drop shot

5’9″ Avid rigged with a wacky worm

as you can see I pretty much only fish for bass and mostly fish lakes. If I were to hit up a river, I’d have a bunch of different baits tied on and my frog rod would definitely be in the boat.

most of my walleye fishing is done with a jig tied to the end of my line, but I have been trolling quite a bit lately and I have really enjoyed it.

Ya!! That’s what I like about Texas riggin!! And it works so darn well. And I have thrown top waters before, had some strikes. But still have never produced off of it. So, this year I am trying to experiment more, and try new things. Any other suggestions??

Yup, a swimjig with a 5″ grub (tail down) slowly swum along the breakline and/or weedlines… Dynamite for bass!

I jig/pitch/drag for walleyes with jig and leech sometimes minnow. Got a medium action walmart rod with a shimano 1000 and 8lb cajun red line. For bass i love topwater froggin or bobber with minnow.

up until this year all i fished with was live bait. i decided this year to change it up. i’ve never had good luck with rapalas but after fishing with chubby darters this winter im sold on them. i had alot of luck early season trolling raps shallow water at night. i found eyes in 2fow chasing minnows.i also started using 3″ twister tails on dragging jigs(flat bottom triangle shaped) in multiple colors ad have had good luck. perch color or white have worked the best.ive also had good luck using chubby darters on a slip bobber and fishing weed pockets or flipping them up shallow.

Its hard to pass on using plastics, cz they just work so darn well.
However, I would suggest trying topwater more. Scum frogs esp the poppers, rats, spro frogs, buzzbaits or even a floating worm over the weed/lilys. That topwater explosion is the best part. it’ll be hard to do, but try to wait a second before you set the hook after the bite. I’ve had fish hit and miss the lure a few times before it actually get it in its mouth. Sometimes I wonder how fish ever get that big with such poor depth perception lol.
for me, seems as though the fish i catch on topwater lures usually average better in size also.
