Managed a day on the ice Sunday trying to put a plan together for the Wissota Winter Classic Feb. 12th. I started on the walleye early soaking 3 inch shiners . Setting up in shallow water about 4-8fow yet very close to deeper water. I had fish early but by 9am action slowed down big time. I am sure if I would have followed the fish to deeper water, the bite would have continued into the later morning. After establishing a walleye location I moved on to the gills. First line down the hole was a nice 9 inch gill and a few smaller ones to follow. I set up in 14-18FOW and as long as you had a crib or brush pile near, you had fish. The gills would not move off the wood unless you got right on top of them. Gill Pills work great for the deeper water presentation. If the pattern still holds I did find a number of pike roaming the 15-20FT flats found on the East side of the small lake a few weeks ago. These fish have been there all winter and can be found in good numbers.

Big thanks to everyone who took part in the Wissota Winter Classic this past Saturday! Fishing was slow in comparison to the past years events. Walleyes came in to registration in the biggest numbers along with a good number of pike. Crappie fishing was very slow with no more then a dozen crappie registered. By the size of the registered fish you can see that the big ones were not feeding between 8am-3pm Saturday. Here is the top four winning fish in each category.

    Bluegill 8 1/8 – 8 – 7 5/8 – 7 ¾

    Walleye 18 ¼ – 13 5/8 -13 5/8 – 13 ¾

    Pike 27 5/8 -27 ½ -26 7/8 -26

    Crappie 12 – 11 ¼ – 10 3/8 – 10 ¼
