It’s been quiet here so I’ll post an update. I haven’t actually been on
Wissota for a while since I’d been distracted by Lake Holcombe and the
Chippewa Flowage.
I got out yesterday (Sunday) and after some searching, I found a bunch of
little walleye and 12″ class crappie on the bottom of a sharp main lake
dropoff. The bottom of the drop was in 15′. They were clustered within a
small area, tight to the slope. It was interesting because the walleye
seemed to all be in 10-12′ and the crappie were 12-15′.
Another good location was a 10′ flat that dropped to deep water. Little
walleye and more large crappie (not quite 12″ though) were scattered across
the 10′ flat.
Water temp was 62-67, winds were light, the weather was nice, and few other
boats to create a nuisance. What a nice day.
Normally I don’t keep crappie 12″ or larger but I was catching so many that I
decided to take 5 for a meal and take a picture. I had the wife snap a
picture of a couple 12 3/4″ fish. I’ll post that when I get it off the
camera.
Btw, my best pattern all summer, including on the two lakes mentioned above,
has been to fish 12-15′ either the bottom of or near the bottom of a
dropoff, or the flat at the top before it drops off. It’s been a
productive summer.
Cribs haven’t been producing as much as in past years.
