Now that the field for the FLW League finals is beginning to be set, I thought this would be a good time to talk about getting bait for Wissota. This is a post directed primarily at the out of town guys who will be visiting Wissota to pre-fish and later compete.

There are a couple of live bait options that are close to the lake. One is Gordy’s Ace Hardware, on the south side of the lake close to the Cty X/J intersection. Another is Bill’s Sport Shop, in downtown Chippewa.

Farther to the south, you can get bait at Scheels All Sports (Golf Road exit off Hwy 53 in Eau Claire), at Burokers (Birch Street in Eau Claire), or at Mouldy’s Bait and Archery (Bus. 53 in Lake Hallie).

A word of caution: these shops carry only the most basic assortment of bait. Crawlers, minnows (fatheads or suckers), and leeches until they are no longer available (which is likely to be soon). Don’t come to the Chippewa Valley expecting to find anything elaborate, and please keep Wisconsin’s VHS regulations in mind if you’re thinking about bringing your own bait to the area.

Yes same setup as Wissota Location. you Could also add the citco station by the water tower or the CVTC chippewa Campus to the list.

Last year, Gander Mtn had a selection of different size shiners (more so than anyone else), this year they are not carrying them. Anyway, I guess if someone made them aware of a need for a week or two, maybe they would carry them for that period of time.

One last location is the Citgo near the intersection of CTH X and CTH K. I find I get better value at the Citgo stores compared to Gordy’s.

If you are looking for jigs, walleye flies, blade baits, or ringworms. Those are stocked at Absolute Powersports.
