The week surrounding the Memorial Day holiday is a time frame when my guests and I have often had a chance to dance with some nicer-than-average Wissota walleyes. This Memorial Day will be no exception.

Joining me today were Jim and his wife Chris from Eau Claire. Chris bought Jim a full-day guided walleye adventure with Jason Halfen Outdoors for a Christmas gift last year, and today was the first day that our schedules meshed. I’m glad today was the day!

Jim, Chris, and I landed 33 walleyes during our trip today. We had 8 fish under Wissota’s 14-18″ protected slot, 4 fish over the slot, and the rest in the middle. Our big fish were 23″, 21.5″, 20.5″, and 19″.

Jim and Chris came a long way during our outing today. The first few minutes of our day together were spent refreshing their memories about how to cast using spinning gear. In contrast, the last few moments were filled with Jim cranking in a 20.5 incher, and Chris tallying a beautiful 17 incher. What a difference a day makes!

Thanks for joining me today, Chris and Jim, and I look forward to getting you back on the water with your sons in the near future!
