We are starting to get together now to discuss this years events. There will be a few nice changes made based on our survey results from last season. As for right now I can tell you our registration meeting will be held at Wissota Rod-n-Gun April 21st at 6pm. Keep an eye on wissotafishingleague.com in the next few weeks for more updates.

Just an FYI to all interested, the Wissota Fishing League webpage has been updated with the new information for 2009! I encourage all interested to check it out because there are some new and exciting changes for this year!
April 3, 2009 at 6:35 pm #765473The new web site looks great….Looking forward to this year as a rookie!!!!!

I think you and Tim are going to do just fine.

If you’re interested talking to this person about if they would be a good partner for you let me know and I’ll hook you up with his contact info. Hope to see everyone out there!
April 21, 2009 at 2:28 pm #770206Just an FYI to all interested in joining this year’s Lake Wissota Fishing League. Tonight (4/21) is the sign-up meeting at the Chippewa Falls Rod n’ Gun at 6pm. If you are thinking about joining this year you really should be present at this meeting. This is because of a new DNR regulation (that will be in effect as of May 1st, 2009…I won’t bore you with the details), we will now need to limit the number of participants. We anticipate the possibility of filling up all the spots at tonight’s sign-up meeting (we will not be holding spots based on verbal commitments). We will only be allowing 19 boats to take part in this year’s league (2/3 person teams…see rules at our webpage for details). Our main deciding factor on who will or will not be in this year’s league will be based on seniority with the league. Any ties will be decided upon by a lottery (pulling names from a hat).
There is a possibility of not filling all the spots tonight, then we will take other requests for possible league participants. Just shoot me a message if you were unable to make the meeting but are still wondering if we have any open spots. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me as well.
April 22, 2009 at 1:10 pm #770219Just to let everyone know last night at our Wissota Fishing League sign-up we were able to fill all available 19 spots. Thank you to all who came out! I want to send out my apologizes to those teams who were unable to join that wanted to, we did not want to limit the field but with the new regulations that were put into place so recently (and we had no plan B in place) there really wasn’t anything else we could do at this point. I really hope next year we can come up with a creative Plan B (but still legal) that will allow as many anglers to join as want to. If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me.
jhalfenPosts: 4179April 22, 2009 at 1:43 pm #770228That’s a bummer, but you guys made the right call under WAY less than perfect circumstances.
The change in tournament regulations is directed towards organized fishing activities, and unfortunately that includes the league. In my opinion, the Wissota league, a well-established, catch-and-release league with strong ties to youth and the community, is an unintended casualty of the new regulations. If you have concerns about the regulations and their impact on organizations like the Wissota league, I would encourage you to contact your local representative or senator, and try to enlist their support. Grassroots efforts can make a big difference. The local reps for our area include:
Jeff Wood (Chippewa Falls) [email protected]
Jeff Smith (Eau Claire) [email protected]
Kristen Dexter (Eau Claire) [email protected]
Finally, good luck to all the league members this year. Have fun and be safe. I’ll look forward to following your performance through the summer.
April 22, 2009 at 5:08 pm #770317Good luck to all that were able to join. It was a ton of fun last year and I am sure you will all enjoy this year. Once again, good luck to all. If anyone needs a sub let me know!

are they going to have that fishing tournament this year again on Wissota? I think last year was the first annual about mid summer? i missed it last year do to a work commitment.

April 27, 2009 at 4:35 pm #771546Yes, it really is unfortunate with the regulations. We unfortunately did not make the cut and after only being able to sub last year was looking forward to the league this year. I am not as mad at the regulations as I am at the bugger picking the numbers out of the hat. 2Ks, we will still be fishing Tuesdays with a big swath of boards out following you around.
Really, we will probably be out most Tuesdays, so maybe we will just get a number from someone to call quick and see if 19 boats have showed up.

I am not involved in any Wissota tournaments this summer, other than working hard to qualify for the FLW league championship that comes to town in September. If someone else is planning an event, I haven’t heard about it.
Right or wrong, we took a turnout of 6 boats as representing limited interest in a real tournament on Wissota, rather than a “throw $50 in a hat and go fishing” contest.
May 19, 2009 at 7:42 pm #778047So far each night this year we’ve had 18 of the 19 boats in our league show up.
