Sure aren’t a lot of reports streaming in.

I haven’t been out to Wissota much this winter. I have been wanting to try some new locations I scoped out in the boat and I finally got a chance to get to one of those locations. This particular location is a small deeper water hole ~28-30 ft that slopes up to 16-18″. I had found that a few locations in this hole had timber that must have drifted down. We were able to find two areas that were holding timber and fish those areas. In one particular group of timber we were able to mark a lot of fish. In the first 15 minutes of fishing a 13″ and 10″ walleye were landed and another walleye I would imagine around 12″ was lost at the hole. All these fish were on spoons and the waxie chandelier. It was pretty quiet after this short flurry and if we downsized we caught a few small bluegill, few small crappie and one nice crappie.

So, not great fishing, but one new location tried and best of all, no one else around!

    On to the next location…

Got a chance for about 2 hours of fishing yesterday, 3:30-5:30pm. Much too nice to not at least give it a try. Again had a few things marked from the boat but this is generally an area with more people. Depth of water was 25-35ft and I was trying both minnows and waxies. I opted to use a larger jig with the waxie to target bigger crappie and walleye. The smaller crappie tend to not like the pressure change on the retrieve. So I use larger baits and slow retrieve.

Was able to land a few crappie from 3:30-5, all on waxie and jig. After 5, fish only bit on minnows. A few nice crappie for the afternoon.

Fun, short afternoon and a few fish for the fryer this weekend.

Great job! So many species in our beautiful Lake Wissota, so little time I really have to get over to check out that Crap’eye bite!
