This is going to be a lot of fun! It’s one of the best prize selections around for an ice fishing contest, all the money goes to a great organization (United Cerebral Palsy), and its organized by the Wissota Fishing League.

Last year we had a great turn out despite it being below zero and fisherman being limited to a certain section of the lake (everyone still had a fun). Now with this year opening it up to the whole small lake (and we’ll keep our fingers crossed for the weather) it really should end up being the best ice fishing event in the area this year!

If you’re an ice fisherman you should be out there Feb 14th!

This is probably the best rule I’ve ever seen at a fishing contest! I have my fingers crossed we’ll end of with a tie at the end.

Sounds fun. Is it $30 a hole, or just $30 total? What about flashers and UW cameras? Do we park at The View, or the public landing(parking fee in effect)?

We are not doing a “by the hole” contest this year, it’s $30 bucks per person, you can drill as many holes as you’d like where ever you’d like on Small Lake Wissota (just follow state regs w/ the # of lines you have out and such). All cameras, flashers, shacks, etc are welcome. We will have a registration tent out on the ice from The View Bar (or at least what use to be The View Bar) by the big party tent (that’s for later ) you can’t miss it. You can park where ever…after you register you could drive right out to where you are going to be fishing if you want (assuming it will be safe to drive out on the ice in Feb, should be safe).

Is the Paint and Stillson creek areas considered the little lake for purposes of this contest?

That’s what I told my wife. She is not a fisherwoman but she is looking forward to this event. There will be a huge heated tent on the ice for the ladies to hang out and sip cocktails and listen to live music. They fill the floor of the tent with 10inches of wood chips and temps reach mid 60’s in the tent. I don’t know about you guys but I could think of no better way to spend my Valentines. I will have a few flags set up in the on ice parking lot and if my lucky lady is good I will let her take the first flag! It is Valentines day and all!

Just an FYI, because of conditions on the ice caused by the warm up (aka its all wet and sloppy out there) the large party tent for afterwards has been moved to the parking lot at the public boat landing on Small Lake Wissota. There is a worry that this could all freeze up by Saturday and become quite slippery out there and we don’t want anyone to get hurt after they’ve had a few of their favorite beverages (as well as the tent freezing to the ice). But since the main tent has been moved that means the registration tent for the ice fishing contest will also be moved to the public boating landing parking lot on Small Lake Wissota (if you don’t know its right on County Highway X, across the X bridge to the west from what use to be called The View).

Another just general FYI, there will be numerous shack and truck checks going on prior to the contest to try and avoid any possible cheating. There will also be volunteers patrolling the water before and during the contest. Not to say we expect people to cheat but we just want to let all you honest people out there know that we’re going to do our best to keep it an honest event!

If anyone has any questions please feel free to let us know! Hope to see you out there!

    Just an FYI to all:

We had a pretty good turn out, around 250 anglers (thank you to all who came!). The top fish in each category were:

    19″ Walleye
    28″ Northern
    13 3/4″ Crappie
    8″ Bluegill

There were a good number of solid Crappies caught (between 12″-13″). I would say at least 20-25 or so brought up to the registration table in that size range. The 19″ Walleye was the only Walleye over the slot. And overall there were not many people targeting Nothern and Bluegill. But I would just like to thank everyone again, I think everyone had a great time!
