Has anyone been out on Wissota or back in Moon Bay just before the Yellow River? I’m wondering what type of ice we are seeing. I may just drive over there and drill a hole or two…

    Main lake…no.

    Yellow river arm….YES.

There has been a lot of action right out in front of your in-laws place, Keith.

Thanks Jason! I know where I’ll be this weekend! Do you know what species? Pike on tip ups, Walleye jigging, or maybe the Crappie bite is on?

    Walleyes, mostly on tip-ups.

Good to see you back on the site, Joe!

    Don’t be a stranger.

Glad to hear you’re finding the fish.

Where, in general, have you, or anyone else out there, been fishing in late December? Thanks! Anyone else have anything to contribute to the Wissota ice fishing chat? I’ll have more to add after the 31st. I’m spending the New Year in Eau C and dawn/dusk will be spent on Wissota.

I’m not saying I advise it yet, but folks are starting to drive out on both the Yellow River arm and the little lake.

I don’t have a lot to share, but I can share some observations.

I went up to Jim Falls in search of bait only to find they were sold out of shiners and fat heads.

I went out near the state park this morning seeing if I could find some bluegills.

I didn’t find any bluegills, but there was steady flag action in the beach area for folks set up on the channel break.

I moved over closer to the landing only to find a dense cluster of 4 houses set up where I wanted to finish my morning. I didn’t encroach and instead tried the cribs near the state park pier, only to come up empty.

There was about 6 trucks parked in the bay east of Kamp Kenwood.

There was a lot of activity on the lake, but I was only a spectator this morning.

Sully, how’s the foot travel conditions off the beach?

Thinking of getting Caroline out for some flag action before it gets super chilly again.

Easy foot travel. The snow is nice and compact.

I forgot to mention, I found 12″ of ice.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the info! It’s nice to have local guys on here to chat with. I obviously can’t just drive by. I’m excited to get out there on New Years. I’ve fished plenty on Wissota open water, but never ice. We’ll see how I do.

    Hey Jason!

Ive been just west of the Anson landing (where everyone else is). Ive had a number a people walk up near me with a GPS, drill hole and pull fish out left and right. Ive been lucky to find the old cribs a few times. Gills are in 25 FOW. Theres been some vehicle action out there couple weeks ago.

My step father has fished this hole for years, and from what other peolpe have said as well as him, the fishing is good one year, but not the next. But as soon as word gets out, this place gets packed and fished out.
