The walleye bite remains strong on Wissota. Varying color, technique, and location is very key to success right now, for us. We have been fishing the windblown areas. Shallow, on windy, cloudy days, and deeper on the sunny, calmer days. Fishing during the higher sun, calmer waters, seems to be better in the typical summer walleye areas. The bite is definitely transitioning, and should remain great, as our weather becomes more stable. Running cranks up to 3 m.p.h sog, right now. Well over 80% of our hits Sunday came on lc, with an even number of lc, and superlines out. This morning although only out for 2 short hours, 5 of 6 hits came on lc, with an even numbered spread again. Both days color was key, with over 90% of the fish on Sunday, on one color, and every fish today, on a different color. We kept some of the smaller fish to eat on Sunday, releasing many fish over 18″, including this 25+” beautiful fish. These smaller fish were just packed with tiny perch, in the one inch long range. Just over the last few days, the walleyes have really turned that deep golden color, and they are just plain pretty. Crawler and leech presentations working well also, in that .5-1.0 m.p.h range. Still lots of mayfly larvae on the water this morning, and some scum pockets starting to form. Surface water temps, around 72.3. Good Luck and get out and enjoy some good fishing.
