Got a chance to fish Wissota today. Fishing was good! Man, the smallies over there are just footballs. We just got in on the tail end of what I suspect was a pretty decent topwater bite this morning. Hit a detour on the way, thought I knew a shortcut, got turned around in the dark, long story, lets just say I didn’t get on the water as early as planned. Boated 2 smallies and a largemouth all about 15″ in the first 20 minutes. The action did slow a little as they day progressed, but still caught fish all day long. Caught lots of short smallies and several over 14″. I will try to post some pics of a few of our better fish, if I can figure it out, otherwise I will need to get Leinie to help me. Also got a bonus walleye about 22″ (we forgot to measure it so just a rough guesstimate), a small muskie & a pretty decent muskie that cut me off right at the boat. Hot baits today were Chompers 5″ salty sinkers (poor man’s senko) for numbers of fish, better fish came on buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, and Scorpion Jigs.

One last fish from Wissota. Did you guys find any of those huge Crappies that inhabit that lake. Remember it won’t be long and you will be able to go after some real monsters of that lake (Sturgeon).

No crappies, Steve, just bass, walleye, and a couple muskie. We fished with nothing but artificials all day, and most baits were pretty good sized as we were targeting those tank smallmouth. Thanks for the help with the pics.

It was my pleasure. Just think I get to see all those photo’s before anyone else. Ha Hey which landing did you use. The one by the Rod and Gun or the one by the State park or maybe you launched on the small lake?? I bet it was busy no matter where you launched. Steve

Looks like you guys did a great job. Fished off my Dock all evening Sunday and finally am learning that it isnt the dead sea. Had great luck tipping leaches on a Jig, and letting them sink. Caught about five walleye all total, no trophies by all means but its a start. When is Sturgeon season open and do you only find them near the dams? How deep where you guys fishing the smallies?

Steve, we launched at the state park. We got there early enough, and were only the second rig in the lot. Put back on the trailer around 3 p.m. Lot was full, but we didn’t have to wait. I always try to avoid some of the peak pleasure boat times when I fish more popular waters. Many boaters don’t get out at the crack of dawn and are usually busy cruising or skiing during those mid afternoon hours.

Will71, we were fishing shorelines and shoreline structure for our smallies. Depths really varied from 1′ out to 18′ depending on the drop and makeup of the shoreline. However, most smallies were in depths of 8′ or less. As the day went on & got hotter the bass tended to relate more to the various shoreline structures and weren’t quite as scattered as they were earlier.

Hey Coot, that pic is great. Don’t worry about the size, I’ve got a size limitation in place in the config that will limit the display size to 500 pixels max dimension. Your photo down loaded real quick over dial-up so I’d say your firing on all cylinders now.
