I will be up there the rest of the weekend (Jason stop by if your out)hope knowone has problems and good luck in two weeks.

Saturday night around dusk it sounded as if a bass boat had gotten stuck somewhere below the Jim Falls dam and were using the big motor on full power to try and push themselves free. We heard 10 to 12 full power bursts from the same area for about 15 minutes. Not much water up there closer to the dam.

Just got back in town, but I heard through the grapevine that there would be a lot of guys prefishing this weekend.

I hope the FOM people have their tournament support trucks in town. Between the practice periods and the tournament itself, I predict no less than 10 lower units shaved off in the Chippewa River. After spending the better part of 10 years learning the lake, I still find ways to encounter new rocks on a regular basis.

Well I think You can count 1 From my understaning there was a triton with a 225 tech flooting down with a oil slick behind on sun. afternoon. I was watching this weekend and there were boats going where I didn’t even know there was water, it’s two bad they have some realy nice boats. the thing is the water is high (jason it is over the marker rock) but there is no flow or very little the SMB are all short up there I was out all weekend the good thing is the walleye bite is good lots of sloters.

Interesting….my guess is that they’re holding water back (for power generation) in anticipation of the next 3 days of hot weather.

Have you noticed that you, Sully and I are developing our own little lingo for those river spots? Marker rock….rock wall….gazebo….blue flag…..I should add bow mount cruncher!

I made my way out on to the lake on Thursday morning and we got some small smallies, but I did manage this nice fish.

I couldn’t beleive the size of some of those rocks. Wish I could get out again, but my motor went Saturday morning

That’s a nice one Glenn. I hope the motor damage isn’t too bad.

The major bummer about some of those rocks way up the river is that our water is so dirty this year. Normally, we have stained but clear water so you can see those motor eaters before you hit them. Our water is SOOOOO cloudy this year from lack of rain/flow that the rocks are darn near impossible to see until it’s too late.

I think the starter went, so hopefully it can be fixed before we are supposed to head up to Mille Lacs this weekend.

That’s good to her Glenn. Have fun on the pond!

My Wissota time over the coming weeks will be dedicated almost entirely to walleyes. Enough sore smallie mouths are going to be generated over the coming weeks without my contribution.

I’m guessing it would start at 3? That’s purely a guess based on how our tournaments typically go. It will take a while to weigh with 130 boats…

I am hoping to get up there tomorrow to see some of the bags that come in. A guy may have to park at Gordy’s and walk over.

This lake seems to get some serious tournament’s, I was wondering why? I know it is a great fishery but there are allot of great fishery’s within an hour or two of here

I have heard through the grapevine that the Chippewa Falls Chamber of Commerce is VERY aggressively marketing the lake as a tournament destination. I have even heard it whispered that a major walleye circuit was considering a stop on Wissota….but that they changed their minds due to the slot limit (and righty so….how exciting would a bag of five 13 3/4 in fish be?).

Seems to me with the $$$$$ invloved for the community that the regs would be set aside for a catch and release tourney that subtracts points for dead fish, I suppose to much red tape from the DNR, a walleye tourney I would love to see

The DNR didn’t enforce the no-cull law for the E-50, right?

The DNR made the E-50 part of a pilot program to examine the effects of cull vs. no-cull fishing.

More info on the program is available here.

    sooooo…

Do they have a permit for this weekend? 2 weekends ago at the b.a.s.s. Fed Nation? two week before that when I fished the Big brothers Big Sisters?

These are what I beleve to be fished by people that will end up releasing there fish or bag of five alot of people will not eat bass so they go in the release boat and back to the water culling is less handling of the fish than keeping weighting then releasing right.

Ok you will reply by saying that there is two people in the boat so that is ten fish so you can keep your top 10 then release 5 at the end of the day, weight the top 5 But remember law reads 5 fish per person there is no party fishing. When John has 5 he reads the news paper and waits for Jack to get 5.

I guess some things are way above me.

Well I must be the only one reading this forum (last 3 posts)but here it is anyway.

    Just a fyi…

I went past the view this morning and there is at least 100 truck with trailers between rays beach and the over flow parking at LaFayette landing, up the road a block.

If you plan on going to the weightin, it should be good, but I might throw a bike or two in the pickup and ride in to the view from gordies or elsewhere, the view parking lot is blocked off but you should be able to squeese it in between the cones.

Jason do you think the FOM anglers showed what Wissota fishery is capable of? I’ve fished one FOM tourny on pool 4 in late April and some of the anglers near the top did very well there also!
I think I’ll give the smallies a break (sore lips) and fish for those so called accidental walleye catches

I know this was directed to Jason but here is my thought

I feel that it should have took 30# to win, a 3# average. On the first day the sak was 16+ with a 4.62 Big fish, I have fished bass comps on wissota and even thought we know the lake we have pulled off a 3# average, and earler in the year. The bite is on right now and I beleve that a bigger bag should have won. they Also 95% were SMB I think there should have been more LMB caught And that should have raised the bag.

Now for the reasons that they might have did the way they did 3 turnaments in a month, prefishing preasure for a month and a half and added local pressure knowing of the good bite.

    That’s an interesting question.

I was really hoping for more out of these guys. Only a handful of 2-day limits (10 fish totals) and the top group had a 2-2.5 lb average.

I have as much experience on the lake as the next guy, maybe even a little more. When we go smallie fishing, it’s relatively common to bag a handful of 15-17″ fish, with a fish or two sneaking into the 18+ class. I think those are the lengths that were making their way into these FOM tournament bags. I was secretly hoping that a few boats would bring in that 4 lb average….20 lbs a day….but it didn’t happen. What that tells me is that those quality fish are just not present in high enough numbers to make it into those tournament bags consistently.

I guess that’s what makes a 20+ from Wissota even more special.
