Today’s Eau Claire Leader-Telegram (aka fishwrap) is reporting that the EC city council has approved a new commercial development on the south side of town, which will be anchored by a 66,500 square-foot Gander Mountain, double the size of our current Gander.
Gander will build at the SE corner of I-94 and WI-53. The hope is that ground will be broken soon with a store opening in the spring.
Interesting, I have heard that Gander might be getting too big for it’s britches. Too much capital tied up in expansion and not enough coming through the door. Just a rumor but apparently they aren’t paying their bills to vendors and manufacturers on time. Regardless, in my opinion I would rather see the mom and pop’s thrive, that is where I spend my money.
That is great news. They are already one of my better customers, so things should only get better with the new store. Their current location is a little saturated with Scheels and Wal-Mart right next to them.
I read today that they finally won the lawsuit that will allow them to do catalog and online sales. This should really help them.
