Wissota with the kids…

And boy was it a blast for them. We had only but a few hours to fish as mom got home a little late from work (but it’s sure nice when you only have a 10 minute drive to the landing). So I packed the boat and cooler and we headed out. My first objective was to hit the honey hole I found a week ago and pull cranks in about 22 fow. At this time I was the only one fishing as the kids were eating all the treats within the first 15 minutes of being in the boat and the wife was reading the paper. Well I missed a couple of fish on the rod holder but was able to boat this beautiful 21″ in about 14 fow. After about 40 minutes of slow action I decided to take the kids to an area of the Yellow that went from 10′ to 4′ and weeds. The plan was for them to use a slip bobber and leeches and I would pitch #5 shad raps. Well after about 5 fish in a row the kids wanted their own pole with a shad rap on it. That was the end of my fishing as I spent the next hour helping them take their fish off…I lost count but they must have boated over 15 eyes. All the fish ranged from 13″ – 19″. The hot color of choice tonight was firetiger…which wasn’t a surpise to me because that has been the hot color so far this year for me.

All in all it was a blast for them as they have never caught walleye like that in their short lives, but I know it won’t be to hard to get them in the boat again. We ended the night by keeping the 19″ and a typical 13″…the 21″ was released after I caught the 19″.

The wife and kids are going to be gone all weekend…I wonder what I’ll be doing this weekend?

And finally the picture of both the 19″ and 21″. Like I said the 21″ was released right after this photo! Looking forward to the weekend.

Nice fish, and and good looking kids, looks like you guys had a blast, take them out now because they grow up fast- I have two teenage daughters and evertime I ask them if they want to come fishing with me they always say they want to but they have something else cooking…..

Great report! I can’t get my oldest to hold the fish either. My younger daughter has no problem with it! Looks like a great family outing!

King185 – I’ll be out there again Saturday evening I believe. Depends on what time I get back from Pool 5a Saturday morning. If I do go I’ll most likely be on the Yellow…if you see a Green Princecraft with a 115 Evinrude stop by and say !!

bigpike / cougareye – Thanks for the nice words! There’s nothing better than having the kids along when the fish cooperate! But I’ve also been in the situation when the fish don’t cooperate….not a fun trip for them!

sounds good! If we go, we’ll probably launch at the Park. I don’t know much about that area and up the Yellow. If you see me (brown/tan Monark King185 with 140 hp Suzuki), point me in the right direction?

Thanks Jason. I actually went Friday evening and Saturday evening. Friday night I took my daughter and a friend of mine who hasn’t fished Wissota in quite some time. We ended up catching 25 eyes Friday night. Then Saturday after a quick trip to pool 5a in the a.m. I ended up going myself for about 2 hours and caught 10 walleyes! The bite wasn’t great Saturday night but was enough to keep me entertained for a couple of hours. Sunday morning my brother and I took my mom up to Big Round Lake out of Turtle lake for some big pan fishing. We had a ball even in the rain! Now it’s back to reality on a Monday with work and coaching!

King185….did you make it out on Saturday? I showed up at about 6:00 and to my surprise the landing wasn’t as full as I thought it would be for a Saturday! Got off the water at about 8:30 to beat the rush to the landing.

Hey Dartman… no, we decided to stay around the home area this weekend. Did some boating/fishing on the Croix Saturday afternoon/night and again on Sunday morning. Sounds like you had some good outings on Wissota. Sure do like that lake!

went out sunday on the yellow also and had the same kind of luck. been fishing pretty much the same small area this entire year with #5 shads. sounds pretty much like the exact same spot. the hot color for me this week and last has been goldfish as well as a black and gold shine that i’m pretty sure they don’t even make anymore. but i’m glad to hear you had fun and safe trip. i’m sure i’ll be seeing you out there. Tracker V16 SuperGuide. stop and say hi.
