Last night was the first night of the 2007 Wissota Fishing League. Jason Sullivan and I spent our time pulling cranks, spinners, and pitching bait. The crank/leadcore bite was best for us, in terms of both numbers and size of eyes. Spinners and crawlers took a few, including some slimers. The bait bite was quite slow, providing one 15″ eye and this very nice crappie, nearly 12″ long, and as best as we could tell, still a pre-spawn female. As you can see from the pic, it was a wet night for us.

The big eye of the night for the league was a 24″ beauty caught casting cranks. Sully and I managed a 17.5 just before we pulled the plug at 9:00. I think the totals in our boat were ~ 10 eyes (including a couple fo real dinks), 3 pike and Sully’s crappie.
Next league night is in 2 weeks.

Thanks for the report. I’d like to get into some of those crappies as I caught a large one on the opener too.

Keep the reports coming, I just reserved a camp space at the state park for June 1-3. I will have my girls (ages 9 and 7) and would love to get them into a pod of crappies.

What was the water temp and were you running the lead in one of the rivers or on the main lake?

65 in the chip. That’s where we spent our evening, the lake was just rocking with the S/SW wind.

I have a guide trip tomorrow and hope to get out this weekend too, so look for more reports in the near future!
