The bay was skimmed over by the K bridge this morning.

I may get the boat out one last time tomorrow and Sunday.

Yes, I also heard from a friend at work there was a skim, and I want to get out on Altoona for one last try on Moanday or Tuesday for mongo perch and/or walleye trollling cranks, good luck to you and keep us informed on the ice conditions as it looks like another blast of cold air is coming in for Thanksgiving….

I stoped at the View tonight after work for a couple and all I could see was open water. Even the small lake looked completely open. Might be ice on the other end of the small or maybe at Kamp Kenwood? I was thinking about cemetary bay in Menomonie for tomorrow evening.

Be careful out there fellas! It’s still early, and there are a few too many news reports (and IDA reports!) about people going through the ice. It was in the 50s as recently as 5 days ago….don’t become a statistic and a 5-minute blurb on the evening news, there will be LOTS of time to see that orange flag fly this winter.

I think it goes without saying but over the weekend there is no open water on the lake. The Yellow River area has been ice covered for a while now. It won’t be long before it’s go time on the Yellow River.

This morning I saw a guy walk out from the city landing. He could be the first ice fisherman for the season.

I got a report that there was a group fishing the Yellow River area this past Sunday. Ice season is under way.

I brought this thread back to life to see when I first reported skim ice behind my place last year and it looks like we are two days behind last year. I found a nice skim layer this morning. Pretty consistent, eh?

See anybody on Wissota over the weekend? I was in the New Richmond Wisconsin area, two different lakes had a couple of people out there. Report was that they were fishing but not catching…so good to hear you caught some fish Joe.

Yea I am still living in Eau Claire, or I should say I am back living in Eau Claire. Here for good, for now. Altoona has been pretty good for me lately, other than that was out on Wissota a couple weeks ago limited out on eyes and had about 10 sunnies to go along with the eyes for that day. 1 eye in the slot all day. Sunnies were 8+ inches

Hey Jason keep us updated if you would be so kind! Hopefully the gils will cooperate more this year, last year was a bit of a down year for Wissota through the ice….

I got word from a co-worker today that a large portion of the Yellow River section has a good layer of skim ice.

Here is a shot from the landing by the S bridge.

It’s not as encouraging as it looks.

It hasn’t froze over in the river channel in the section.

Most of the big lake is slush with no signs of ice under it. It appears completely wet and in the middle of the big lake, I think I saw white caps today.

I would guess the best early ice will be in the Yellow River section because it got a good base before the snow hit.

Kevin, I sure wouldn’t want to meet that dog in back alley.

I will say my Sorel’s didn’t make those tracks.

I’m excited to hit Wissota, but I think I can wait a little.

Is that by Wissota marine??? I have a friend who I work with and I guarantee if those tracks were from that part of the lake it was him- a “purest” who is absolutely nuts when it comes to first ice and pounding the big gils, he live’s just up the road….

I haven’t been able to check near the little lake or the Yellow River area, but the bay by the old Native Bay is half skimmed over.

I hope to have the boat wet on Thursday morning.

I’ll provide an ice update when I hear more.

The Yellow is froze up to the beach area.Stopped there this morn.checking about.Lots of hunters in the park area!Would think by next weekend, weather providing, should be enough ice to get out.Have heard Marshmiller & Glen Loch have some people on them now.Guessing about 3-4″ ice.Getting the boat out? LOL I Would say unless its a inflatable pushing across ice.

I will be hitting a hard water spot tommorrow with my nephew, I will give a report here, it is off to the chip river, a backwater slough. First trip of the year!

I went for a drive this morning and found ice everywhere. The ice where I checked is not suitable for fishing, but we are making good progress.

The spots I checked are at the Anson landing in Jim Falls, by the golf course, and the public access near the S bridge.

    It won’t be long.

Still open water on most of the big lake. I haven’t been able to check the areas that freeze up first lately.
