I made it out for a couple of hours the other day. It was so awesome the wind was just enought to keep ya cool. I started out on the little lake. I started out near Stillson Creek. I was marking a ton of crappies, just what I was looking for, but could only get two small ones to bite. Then the wind picked up a little making it tough to try and stay there. So I moved from here to there and had no luck on crappies….so it was time to try for some eyes and bass as I made my way around the lake.
I hit a couple of places out by Angel Island or what ever they call the rock pile with the flag in it. I managed a couple of smallies and one eye. Of course the eye was the typical Wissota size. I ended up down by the sunken island near where Paint Creek comes in. I was picking up fish on the locator, they just didn’t want to bite. I tried live bait to cranks. I had a few hits on crawlers, but wasn’t able to haul anything in. The last place I tried was at the bridge where Paint Creek comes in. the only thing is the current was going up the creek. I tossed my first jig in and bam…I picked up a 20″ eye. I couldn’t believe it. I caught two more there not quite as big 16″ and an 18″. I also caught a couple of smallies and a largemouth on some top water. There was a 5 degree temp change from the creek to the lake. It was weird and the fact that the current was going the wrong way sure was interesting.
The only thing that got me out of that area was a couple of kids who have NO BRAINS what so ever. One kid ran and jumped over the railing of the bridge into the water. Little did he know 20 seconds before he would have landed in my boat. What is really suprised me is he jumped in blindly. Then not caring I was fishing or saying sorry they continued to jump in the water after seeing me fish, but what can you do…I don’t own the water. Seeing as it was nearing 4pm and I wanted to hit the Chippewa River yet I called it a day there and headed out. See report for the Chippewa River.
